umdasch The Store Makers realise sustainable supermarket experience in second markta store

After the successful realisation of the first physical markta store in Vienna, Austria, in 2023, the cooperation between markta and the shopfitting experts from umdasch The Store Makers is now entering its second round. On 23 January 2025, the grand opening of another store took place in the Zollergasse in Vienna's 7th district.

The new markta branch on Zollergasse, in the immediate vicinity of Vienna's Mariahilfer Strasse, offers a marketplace for high-quality regional food on an area of around 300 square metres. The store's design deliberately differs from traditional food retailing, creating a pleasant shopping atmosphere where customers can browse and feel at ease.

Innovative and sustainable shopfitting

The Store Makers from umdasch were able to support the project as shopfitting partners, taking care of the production and installation of the furniture. As in the first markta store, the visual appearance is characterised by sustainable shopfitting elements.

However, the store design itself differs from that of the existing store in the nearby Alser Strasse in Vienna: natural, regional materials perfectly and strikingly showcase the products on offer, such as the combination of red shelving solutions with elements made of native red beech and ‘Adneter Tropf’, a coral limestone from the Adnet region in Salzburg, Austria. Furniture in the centre of the room, deliberately kept low, provides an optimal overview of the product range with a marketplace character.

Trilux lighting solutions provide a coherent lighting concept and the necessary highlights.

Plenty of space for product presentation

From the very beginning, markta founder Theresa Imre made a conscious decision to offer customers a new and unique shopping experience. Under the motto 'Supermarket reimagined', markta deliberately avoids narrow aisles and high shelves. Instead, well-designed centre space solutions provide a good overview and panoramic view of the entire store, inviting customers to browse the extensive product range.

The tomato red shelves, produced in Austria by umdasch The Store Makers, are placed against the walls where they are a real eye-catcher. The bistro and checkout areas also blend in with the store design and help to make shopping a positive experience.
